In-Field Risks as Indicators of Structure
Thema: Researching Political Parties:
The Management and Objectivization of a Research Relationship in a Radical and Transnational Context
By Olivier GrojeanEnglish
Based on a reflective re-analysis of a study of activists and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) supporters, the main goal of this paper is to highlight the complex dynamics of interactions between researcher and participants while arguing that the risks inherent in these relationships are indicative of the very operation of the party. The objectivization of the approach to fieldwork, of the learning by the researcher of the rules and norms of the groups studied, and of the critical or uncomfortable situations encountered during the investigation, allow for the structures of the PKK?s network and its interdependence system to be revealed and analyzed.
