Structuring the Comparison through the Experience of Writing
Special Report: Putting the Comparison in Words: Analysis of Practices
By Colin GiraudEnglish
In this paper, we examine the role of writing during comparative research focused on the role of gay men in gentrification in Paris and Montreal. In such comparative research, the writing process was a decisive step to match data from different fields. Moreover, this paper shows how it changed the formulation of the comparison itself. For instance, we explain precisely the way we chose and wrote the different chapters to draw a real comparison between Paris and Montreal and the way each neighborhood has been “gaytrified.”
