Social Capital in the United Kingdom

This article explores the evolution of social capital in the United Kingdom since 1950 in order to identify a possible decline and highlight the changes that have taken place. To do so, it uses Putnam?s definition of social capital and its associated norms of trust. It attempts to explain the trends that are revealed and the factors that account for the analyzed levels of social capital. As a conclusion, it offers several considerations on the conceptualization of social capital and its consequences.
