By Martin Nagelschmidt
English

This paper aims to analyze the emergence of European multiple-level systems using the example of cross-border cooperation in the Upper Rhine Valley. The model of the multiple-levelr system will then be applied to the most recent cooperation activities to have taken place on the eastern border of Germany. The assumption here is that the specific nature of the emergence and functioning of multiple-level systems in cross-border regions in Europe can be explained by national institutional factors and their influence on this cooperation.
