After considering recent changes in theories and analyses of identity processes, this paper looks into the circumstances that led the author to use a tool measuring national identity, or the Moreno Question, conducted two decades ago in Scotland and emphasizing its advantages and limitations. The paper concludes with some reflections on the compatibility of exclusive identities and the development of European Union construction.
