Evangelical Missionary Networks in Oceania: Intergenerational Mobility and the Reconfiguration of Christian Activism
II. New Policies for Religious Actors in the Context of Globalization
By Yannick FerEnglish
As part of the process of establishing themselves in Oceania, evangelical missionary networks produced new forms of Christian activism rooted in contemporary mobility and oriented toward the younger generation, who, while perpetuating a heritage of Christianity that is intrinsically linked to cultural and national identity, seek to free themselves from the leadership of the traditional churches. These networks have built bridges between youth movements attached to historical Protestantism and the new evangelical churches. They have also promoted the formation of regional missionary networks, which today are agitating for Christian governance in the Pacific in the name of an Oceanian identity opposed to Western secularization.
