Undertaking a large-scale survey covering eight Moroccan political parties during their national conference constitutes an appropriate ethnographic approach to understanding their internal decision-making processes. This paper studies various conditions of access to the field under both favorable and unfavorable conditions. Getting to know the inner circle, making the case for the scientific soundness of the study, and creating a precedent are all key elements of success. However, the act of refusing to be part of the study reveals how the party leadership struggles to deal with democratized access to information it does not control and that could reshape the public image of the political organization.
