The influence of Inter and Intra Partisan Interests within the Redistricting Process: Towards a Deconstruction of the Role Played by Political Parties

This article is dealing with redistricting in order to give a better comprehension of electoral reforms studies. Studies of electoral reforms mainly focus on parties’ interests through the voting system. This article suggests that the electoral reforms studies must be refined to extend their applicability to others reforms. Hence, it is based on empirical approach taking example of French legislative redistricting process completed in 2010. This article highlights particular features and stakes that are specific to that type of changes. This article is suggesting that two scopes might be added to electoral reforms studies: the deconstruction of the uniqueness of the partisan actor (political parties), and the diversification of the types of goals pursued by the political players. In the end, this article aims to demonstrate that an electoral reform’s may be handled in the scope of both inter-parties and intra-parties strategies.
